A question from second-year middle schooler, radio name "Hyakkai Naku Koto-chan", in Chiba Prefecture to you listening to the radio and Kanjani8's Ohkura Tadayoshi-kun: "I'm in the band, and I play alto sax. Now then, is the sax a brass instrument or a woodwind instrument? And what's the difference between a brass instrument and a woodwind instrument?"

Now this is the first time, isn't it, that a question from a listener has come in. There are a lot of people in the band. Is it because we're a band that they're interested in us, that they're interested in Kanjani8? So sax, huh? The so-called "wind instrument", such as the flute, trumpet, or sax, is the general term for instruments that use the vibration within a pipe to make sound. What, so there's that kind of thing? What's a brass instrument? Metal? It's probably made of metal. Oh, so I'm supposed to answer what the difference is. It's probably between wood and metal, right? I want to say that the sax is a brass instrument, but let's go with woodwind instrument! It's metal, but, like, maybe it's metal-coated wood, probably. That's what I think~! You're trying to trap me, but I won't be fooled! Well then, the answer to this question we're curious about will come at the end of the show, so let's all think about it together.

Well then, let's be energetic today as well! Kanjani8's Ohkura Tadayoshi, Nichiyoubi Sukkyanen!

Good afternoon. How has your Sunday afternoon been? This is Kanjani8's Ohkura Tadayoshi. Now from radio name "Kana-chan" from Osaka. "This year for Mother's Day, are you going to do anything for your mother? This year, I'm thinking of giving my mother music as a present. There's been a lot that's happened between my parents and me since some years ago, but at the time I kept listening to Kanjani8's '365nichi Kazoku' and sobbing. All kinds of memories about my parents came flooding in. This year, I want to give that song to my mother as a present, no matter what. Ohkura-kun, is there a song you'd like to give to your mother?"

That's a really great stor. Today? is mother's day. Ah! I totally forgot. I get the feeling I always give my mother flowers on Mother's Day. Ah, but honestly, I don't have a song I want to give her, but knowing that there are people who listen to our songs like that makes me really happy. Yeah. As for me, the greatest memory I have of Mother's Day is, well, my mother was a smoker -- she still is -- and when I was in grade school, maybe? In first grade or so, I had a small allowance, but even then, I went to the 100 yen shop to buy a cigarette case, one of those ones made out of cloth with a zipper attached, and I gave that cigarette case to my mother as a present, like, "Here," and she said, "Thanks." Recently, I went back home, and I was looking for something in the kitchen, and it appeared. That cigarette case. That... I was so moved by that. Like, my mother took such care of something she got from her son, and of that memory. And to me, it wasn't much of a present, but when I think that maybe she was really touched by it, it makes me really happy. That's why I think anything will do, really. Like, anything you think of will do, but giving her a song is a really wonderful idea, and that you chose our song to give to her makes me super happy. But anything, even something small will do, just giving her something. I think even just the word "thank you" is good, though that's probably hard to say since it's embarrassing. Well, even just a message is fine. Yeah. If you have just a little communication, I think it'd be nice.

Well then, Kanjani8's Ohkura Tadayoshi, Nichiyoubi Sukkyanen! This week as well, please stay with me till 2:30.

And now, a question from Kanjani8's Ohkura Tadayoshi to those of you in front of the radio: One of the foods I love is natto. One type that's eaten a lot in the Kanto region is small grain natto. It's that fairly normal natto that's placed in square packs and sold in supermarkets, and typically one pack has 50 grams. Now how many beans does that one pack have? A staff member for this show, assistant director Kanasugi-san, stuck through the stickiness and counted. But before we get to the answer, first, I'd like you to listen to this song. "Kokoro no Hana wo Sakaseyou" by Ikimonogakari.

<Ikimonogakari - "Kokoro no Hana wo Sakaseyou">

The song we're playing for you is Ikimonogakari's "Kokoro no Hana wo Sakaseyou". Mm, right, I'm allowed to play all kinds of songs on this show, and whenever possible, I try to play songs that I normally listen to. And the songs I really listen are really expansive, but I quite enjoy female artists, so I'd like to continue playing songs by female artists. This song for me is like an encouragement song, and the title is just as it is. I'd like to get the flower of my heart that's within me to bloom. So when there's hard times, when all kinds of things are happening, I'll do my best to get that flower to bloom. That's the kind of song it is. When I listen to this song, I start to tremble. And on days off, well, this show is called "I love Sundays", but for me, on days off, I watch movies, watch dramas, watch funny variety shows. And I watch all of the effort that in my generation are putting forth. And what I know is that it becomes like my own energy. Right, so when I listen to this kind of song, and I think this is the same for everyone, I want my days off to be days when I can recharge my batteries so that I can do my best starting on Monday. So with those feelings included, I chose this song. Everyone, please listen.

And now, the answer to the quiz. How many beans are in one pack of natto? Our AD Kanasugi-san counted them for us. There were three packs, so he counted all three, and the answer is... ah, there's natto coming now. Man, you're doing such a small thing in such a huge studio. All right, the natto has arrived. The small grain natto is... smelly! Hehehe. So this is a little different when I'm the one eating it, but the smell of natto that other people eat pisses me off. 45 grams. This is 45 grams. Wah, it looks good, though when you open up natto on a tray like this, it's not usually as messy as this. Well, the answer is an average of 181 beans? It has this many? Oh, 184, 186, 175. So there isn't much difference. Huh. So when you're casually eating it, you're actually eating about 180 natto beans in one pack. Mm, well, it's like okay then, what of it? This is pretty pointeless. But I guess we can do these kinds of quizzes, too, as long as we think of them. Yes. Right, they came up with this quiz because I like natto.

Well, people seem to think that it's rare for people in Kansai to like natto. But the idea that Kansai hates natto is really outdated. Now it's an age when they're widespread in conbini, and how they're lined up in supermarkets like they're a given. I always get pissed when it comes up, like, what year are you talking about anyway? Seriously, I'd really like the whole "natto, even though it's Kansai" thing to stop. Though, well, it's true that my dad doesn't like it. And it seems like my grandparents' generation really didn't have the custom of eating natto. But my mom had us eat natto since I was a baby, so I became able to eat it. So our family liked natto, and it was one of those dishes that definitely appeared on the dining table. Usually, it'd be the main dish, and we wouldn't use mustard, but we'd put in a whole egg, and we'd put in a huge amount of onions. How much was it? About as much as the natto itself. So we put in quite a bit of onions, and with the onions and egg in there, there wasn't enough dashi so we'd add soy sauce to flavor it and eat it that way. That was my absolute favorite. I think that's fairly standard, though, even though I made such a big deal about it just now. But in the Ohkura house, that was standard. Once I started living on my own, I've started making all kinds of natto, and one recipe I'd like to recommend is mixing in kimchi. Well, if you mix in kimchi just like that, it's too big, so mince the kimchi so it's easy to eat and then add it to the natto. And I add dashi, too, so add doshi, and sesame seeds. Well, you can pretty much add anything. After that, drizzle on some sesame oil and finish it up. It's delicious. It may not seem like anything, but it starts feeling a little elaborate. I recommend it to people who like sake, too.

And then one way of eating natto that I've liked since I was small is, well, if you add egg to natto every day, you start to get sick of it, so I tried all kinds of things, and a really delicious one was natto mayonnaise. All it is is putting mayonnaise on the natto and mixing it up. Did I add soy sauce to this? I get the feeling it was delicious without it. We did a show in Kansai, and even for Yokoyama-san, who didn't like natto no matter how it was made, this way to eat it helped him overcome natto. Well, if you add too much, it just become mayonnaise, but it cuts the smell of the natto, so for people who don't like natto, start by adding a lot of mayonnaise and try eating it that way. It's a new sensation, and I think you'll think, "Maybe I can eat this after all." And with this it's just like, with just a little bit, it's like you can eat a bowl of rice, so with one pack, you can eat three times as much as you would rice. If you put mayonnaise in. Though this might just be me. And then there's, hm, natto soup, if you put the ground natto in miso soup. Well, I guess that's the regular way of making it. Make the dashi, dissolve the miso, add the natto, cut onions and add those in. I think I might like natto too much. You don't usually hear about people who eat this much natto. Um, perhaps it's time for you to move this natto away? It's super stinky! Hahahaha! It stinks! Sorry about that. Well, I'd be quite happy if you tried these types of ways of eating it.

So just now we had a quiz about natto. Now it's time for the usual quiz about Kanjani8. Lst time, we did an image survey, and out of 30 people, the most common answer was that I looked erotic. Though this was due to a problem with the photo used. I'd taken most of my clothes off. So this time, I'd like to redeem myself. If I could ask you to use a proper publicity shot. Now then, onto this week's Kanjani8 quiz.

Here's the question! Kanjani8 is a group of seven who made their CD debut in September of 2004. Of course, when the seven of them are all together, they're Kanjani8, but each of the members has his own individual personalities. It may even be the case that their popularity is also scattered. Now then, how popular is Ohkura-kun within Kanjani8? This time we did our research in one-on-one battle form. The first challenger is Murakami Shingo-kun. And again, we're in the lap of Nippon Housou, in front of Yuurakuchou Station where we asked 30 people. Frankly, who do you like better, Kanjani8's Ohkura Tadayoshi or Murakami Shingo?

Wouldn't it be a good idea to quit with this kind of thing, seriously. This in-fighting between the members. Well, as far as who people like, I don't care! I really don't care, but if we're going to do it, I'd like to win. This time they've used a photo where we're wearing kimono. This one in front of me, this is probably the one everyone looked at for this battle round. I really want to win this, but this picture of Murakami-kun... His hair is slicked back a bit, and he's got this cu~te look on his face. Fufu. I've never fixated on Murakami-kun's face like this before, so I'm feeling all weird now. Hm, how will it turn out? I want to win! But yeah, Murakami-kun does hosting and things. And at his roots, he's a cheerful person, and I think people's image of him is good, too, since he appears in a midday show. So if that's the case, and it comes down to that image, I'm at a disadvantage here. Ah, I don't like this. Prediction? That's my prediction, that I want to win. Oh, I'm predicting how many vs. how many? How unpleasant, out of 30 people. Well, we're in front of Yuurakuchou Station, so there are lots of adults there. He does shows like Getsuyou kara Yofukashi in a later timeslot, too. I really think I'm at a disadvantage here. But with the thought that I want to win, let's put me down as 18 vs. 12. Those of you listening to the radio, please make your own predictions as well. The answer will come after this song. Now on sale, Kanjani8's new song, and the theme song for the drama I appear in, Otenki Onee-san. Kanjani8's "Hesomagari"!

<Kanjani8 - "Hesomagari">

The song we're playing for you is Kanjani8's "Hesomagari".

Here's the answer we've been waiting for! Who do you like better, Kanjani8's Ohkura Tadayoshi or Murakami Shingo? First, please listen to the snippets from the interview.

"Ohkura-san. Gut feeling."
"Definitely Ohkura-kun."
"Ohkura-kun. I'm someone who likes people based on looks, so I like good-looking guys."
"Murakami-kun is funny, but I like the cool Ohkura-kun."
"I like Murakami. Like, isn't he pretty funny when he's talking on TV?"
"Murakami-kun seems funnier, so I think he'd cheer me up."
"Murakami. He seems like he'd lead me."
"Murakami-san. More than Ohkura-san, he seems, like, biologically stronger."

Things up and got biological. What's that even mean? Like, instincts? That aches a bit. And now the answer we've all been waiting for. Who do you like better, Kanjani8's Ohkura Tadayoshi or Murakami Shingo? And out of 30, eh? We're short a number, 18 vs. 11. And then one person who said neither. There was one person who said neither. You should have just asked someone else! Nfu. Though these are the real numbers. So which way did this go, then? Which one? Didn't I make a great prediction? My prediction was 18 vs. 12, so it's right on target. So which direction did this go? Tadah~! Let's not announce this. Hahahaha! We'll cut the whole thing and go straight to the ending. Seriously?! Murakami-kun got 18 votes, Ohkura 11 votes. Neither, 1 vote. What the hell. I, like... I... like, right? Even though this is my first regular show. I don't like this! Hahahahaha! I can't take this anymore! At the beginning, too, only 12 people out of 30 knew my name, and then the next week you did Subaru-kun and he got 17. It's like you're forcing the punchline where in the end I'm no good. Don't like it. This is earnest, too. Next time, can't we go to Shibuya Station or something? Hahahaha! Just a bit, move just a bit. Right? Let's change the age range and ask a bit then. So that's that, then. That was the Kanjani8 quiz.

And now for the answer to the question that radio name "Hyakkai Naku Koto-chan" from Chiba Prefecture sent us at the opening of the show. "I'm in the band, and I play alto sax. Now then, is the sax a brass instrument or a woodwind instrument? And what's the difference between a brass instrument and a woodwind instrument?" The answer: the difference is that brass instruments are made with metal and woodwind instruments are made with wood... is what people tend to think, but that's wrong. The difference is how sound is made? Eh? How's that? For trumpets and other brass instruments, the musician himself vibrates his lips, and that vibration resonates through the instrument and sound comes out. On the other hand, for woodwind instruments like the clarinet, a tool called the reed is used, and that reed vibrates and sound comes out. So the difference is a question of whether the source of the sound is the musician's lips or the tool. Brass instruments include the trumpet, tuba, horn, trumpet horn. Woodwind instruments include the flute, recorder, sax, etc. Hmm, I don't get it. So the reed itself is made of wood, then. Ah, so that's it. Eh? Trumpet. So the trumpet's the one where you make your lips into a weird shape and go like puu~. Ahh. The trumpet shell is a brass instrument, too. Where'd the word "brass" come from? From the puu~ sound? A brass instrument where there's vibrations within the metal... which means the sax is which one? Woodwind! I was right! See, I got it right! You thought I'd fall for your trap. I mean, the reason was completely wrong. The reason was wrong, but I said the right answer, so it's okay, right? Ahh, it feels good to end on with the right answer.
