His housemate was a fairy?!
A treasure trove of mystery?! A report about Tokyo life.
Hamanaka, who appears in the stage play Moto no Mokuami at Shimbashi Enbujo until August 25, and at Osaka Shochikuza from September 1-25. We had him tell us about how he spends his days during his life in Tokyo!
I went out to Tokyo a little before stage play rehearsals began. I had a friend of mine I've been with since elementary school let me "freeload" at his house, and I was there memorizing the script. We're close like family, but one day, he up and ate the bread that I'd set aside for breakfast. I got mad and asked, "Why'd you eat it?!" and he said, "It wasn't me. It was the work of a fairy." After that, I made sure to buy the fairy's share of bread, too. (laugh)
Once rehearsals started, I relocated to the hotel that had been prepared for me. For some reason, there are a lot of foreigners there, so it doesn't feel like I'm in Japan. (laugh) Rehearsals go till fairly late, so the only person I've been out to eat with here is Hama-chan (Hamada Takahiro). The role I'm playing this time, Yasukichi, is one of the townspeople, and he also takes on the role of giving information about the story to the audience, so I'm currently thinking about how I should act it out. A lot of charming actors appear, too, so I think there'll be a lot of people who come see the play who don't know who I am. But I'll do my best to get all kinds of audience members to say, "Yasukichi, he was good."
